New Ways of Looking at My Second-Favorite Reanimated Corpses

I'd heard in passing about this book and looked it over at a conference last winter and flagged it mentally as something to check out; I'd recently asked my college freshmen to examine particular zombies or vampires as products of the age that produce them, and while I'd been able to direct some of the more ambitious among them to Nina Auerbach's _Our Vampires, Ourselves, I knew that I needed a similar book for zombies if I were to assign the topic again.
Then I went to another conference and heard this book lauded by a scholar whose work I very much admire and I was sold! I took my library's copy out of circulation for the summer and only returned it once I'd ordered my own. This book is an excellent read for anyone who likes zombies and their places in the world; while I recognize the scholarly excellence of the articles individually and the collection as a whole, it is equally accessible to a more general reader. Seriously, you can just pick this up and read an article while lounging on a beach or waiting for a flight--it's seriously delightful *and* instructive.
I learned a lot from this book and it really expanded my thinking about zombies and their places in their worlds and mine.

A great collection, a little more pop than I wanted, but really interesting. I do like that the authors go back to the Haitian origins of zombies, and show how different contemporary north American zombies are in comparison
